On this World Food Day, students from Nusa Alam School visited us in Peduli Anak with a very special heartwarming thought that touched all our hearts here at the center. The arrival of the Nusa Alam students was accompanied by cookies and fresh bananas, which they then shared with the children under our care. What made the moment even more special was the thoughtfulness that accompanied the treats, with each cookie wrapped in a package with heartfelt notes written by the students themselves. This act of kindness made World Food Day an unforgettable occasion for the children at Peduli Anak.

The World Food Day has acquired international status, drawing attention to food security and combating hunger. In joining the commemoration of this important day, the students from Nusa Alam demonstrated insight into values upheld and sensitivity to sharing with others who are in need. Their visit was a kind gesture of generosity and compassion in solidarity with our children to enable them to feel appreciated and looked after.

A Thoughtful and Meaningful Gesture

While delectable treats given by Nusa Alam’s students were indeed delectable to the children in Peduli Anak, a set of thoughtful notes, one attached to each cookie, was something that really touched their heart. The cookies were wrapped with messages of love, encouragement, and friendship. So, this gift was much more than food; it was a message of hope and connection.

For children who have had to face the worst of times, such personal gestures speak volumes beyond what any amount of words could say. Many of the children at Peduli Anak come from backgrounds of neglect, abandonment, or poverty, and they rarely get the simple pleasures of a thoughtful note or a well-thought-of gift. The handwritten notes made them feel appreciated, acknowledged, and important, turning the act of giving into something much deeper.

Here is the sound of the thoughts of one of the children, Jordan, regarding the event himself:
“I loved the cookies, but what made me happiest was reading the sweet note. It made me special and loved. Thank you, Nusa Alam, for thinking about us!”

Delicious food mixed with touching messages made one of those happy moments that will long outlive the existence of World Food Day. In such events, we are reminded of how far kind words can go and of what youth is capable to create actual changes in other people’s lives.

World Food Day and Its Significance

World Food Day is held every year on October 16 as a day of awareness for food security and hunger, and problems related to ensuring nutritional non-deficiency for all people. The Day recalls the global problem of hunger and the need for all people and nations to put in joint efforts to face this challenge. This day has one clear meaning for Peduli Anak: a safe and stimulating environment for children with healthy meals, education, and the care their development deserves.

This World Food Day was way beyond an act of charity but was more of a strong statement of community and care when students from Nusa Alam visited. Sharing food and practicing random acts of kindness, therefore, showed students the spirit of World Food Day and helped them get much-needed understanding in their social lives about how important helping others might be. The initiative, thereby, highlights the great role youngsters can play in raising a call and bringing a positive change in the lives of those unfortunate enough.

In this way, through this type of activity, Nusa Alam School has participated in inculcating a sense of responsibility and mercy into their students, as well as teaching them life lessons through empathy, generosity, and community service.

Small Acts of Kindness Can Count a Lot

While cookies and bananas may seem like an innocuous gesture, such acts of kindness go far beyond the cookies and fruits themselves. To the children who often have to face a lot of difficulties at such tender ages in Peduli Anak, these thoughtful gifts bring much-needed physical comfort and emotional support. It tells them they are loved and that others think of them.

Such moments dot the broader context of child development. Indeed, such positive social interactions and support from peers will help a child raise his or her self-esteem, build good relationships, and create a sense of belonging among the children. No exception is the case with the children of Peduli Anak, who blossom on the sense of community and connection such acts of kindness foster.

All this further built gratitude and joy in these children due to this event. These children would feel that they were included and loved, knowing their peers from Nusa Alam School would go through the trouble of bringing joy on this particular day. It just reassured them that they belonged to a community that truly cared about their needs.

A Day Special at Peduli Anak

This day became extra special for everyone in Peduli Anak because of the visit by students from Nusa Alam. The children were most delighted not just by the yummy treats but also very touched with the thoughtfulness of such a gesture. This is not just about sharing food; it’s about sharing a moment that has got something to do with meaning between the students of Nusa Alam and the children at Peduli Anak.

It gave the opportunity for children to share food, be social, and laugh with others present with them from Nusa Alam School. Such contact cannot be weighed in any amount of money because it allows children to make friends, socialize, and feel like part of the community.

It was an important visit to show empathy and compassion mean a lot. By giving the students of Nusa Alam the opportunity to do this gesture, it proved that they do know how important it is to share not only food but love and care, and this is a lesson to both children here in Peduli Anak and society in general.

Special Thanks to Sekolah Nusa Alam

We are so grateful to those students and teachers of Nusa Alam School for their generosity and goodwill. This visit brought so much joy, smiles, and warmth into the hearts of the children. Sharing food with messages of love and support was a small, simple gesture but one that struck a chord over a long period in the hearts of these children—what they felt the most were appreciation and being taken care of.

Our heartfelt thanks to Nusa Alam School for making this a World Food Day that the children of Peduli Anak will never forget. Your kind act has just brightened their day but also reminded all of us of something very valuable: compassion, kindness, and community.

We look forward to a continued beautiful relationship and hope to be able to welcome Nusa Alam students back to Peduli Anak one day. It is together that we can continue to bring joy and hope to the most deserving children.
