Study Visit between Peduli Anak and East Bali Poverty Project
On Friday, 25th, and Saturday, 26th October, visitors from the East Bali Poverty Project arrived at Peduli Anak for a two-day study visit. This was supposed to be a sharing of perceptions and experiences between the two sides on how to assist underprivileged children in order to provide quality education and support in life. EBPP brought four teachers and sixteen students.
A Collective Child Welfare Vision
Peduli Anak and EBPP share in their commitment to empower children of underprivileged backgrounds and equip them with ways of rising above their challenges toward a promising future. “It’s just so inspiring to be working with others who work hard for the welfare of children,” added Ibu Dian, Director, Peduli Anak. “This visit reminds us of what can be done when we work together and learn from one another.”
During the visit, both teams shared everything from education strategies to challenges and how they can further their support for the children under their care. Bapak Gede, representative from EBPP, spoke his appreciation regarding Peduli Anak’s approach toward curriculum and in engaging the students. “We are always looking for new ways to help the children of East Bali,” he said. “Witnessing the commitment and creativity of Peduli Anak has given much-needed ideas to take back into the community.”
Day One: Strategies and Information Sharing
First-day educational strategies in the visit involved thorough discussion on the curriculum development process and the activities involved. This session was led by Ibu Dian, the headmaster of the Middle School, Bapak Denny, and the social worker, Bapak Amir, in sharing experiences from their practice at Peduli Anak.
“At Peduli Anak, we are always working at ways in which to enhance our practice in the way we support our students both academically and emotionally,” explained Bapak Denny. “It was a great experience just to share thoughts with the EBPP team and learn from their perspective.” The session enabled both organizations to delve deep into their respective practices and share challenges and successes with one another.
Some of the methodologies and unique challenges working with children in East Bali were shared by the teachers and staff of EBPP. This open discussion developed mutual respect and laid the foundation for a strong basis of continued collaboration between the two organizations.
Day Two: Student Interaction and Creative Project Discussions
A second day was allowed for the EBPP students to be face-to-face with the children of Peduli Anak in a very interactive sharing session on creative projects. Discussion and question-and-answer sessions were carried out where both groups shared their ideas and searched for creative ways of self-expression.
No moment was wasted, and the children from both organizations shared laughter, stories, and knowledge about their lives and dreams, which instantly clicked. There was an apparent sense of community and friends as they worked together on creative ideas—a clear case of magic in shared experiences.
“I loved meeting new friends and hearing about their lives in East Bali,” one enthusiastic Peduli Anak child said. “It is amazing to know that we are all working hard in our own ways to achieve our dreams.” Full circle, the day came complete with both groups leaving inspired, with new friends, but most importantly, with a furthered understanding of each other’s journey.
Inspiring Future Collaboration
The visit turned out to be two etched days in the memories of both Peduli Anak and EBPP. “Rarely does it happen that committed organizations come together in a common cause. It was an enriching experience, and we would like continuously to learn from each other,” Bapak Gede said gratefully.
With words of gratitude for the opportunities yet to be availed of, the EBPP team left. One important aspect in the visit brought to light was that of partnerships in child welfare. “United we stand, divided we fall.” Thus went the song that echoed in their minds throughout.
