Medical Week at Peduli Anak

DSCF9089-1

At the beginning of January 2025, we were honored to welcome a group of medical students and doctors from Singapore to Peduli Anak. Their week-long visit brought essential healthcare services and health education to our children and staff, as well as to the local community in Langko Village, where our center is located.

Extending Care to Langko’s Elders

The medical team’s journey began with a collaboration between The Singaporean medical students, Peduli Anak, and a local medical center to conduct basic health check-ups for the elders in Langko Village. This meaningful initiative ensured that the elderly members of the community received much-needed attention to their health.

Health Check-ups for Children and Staff

From Monday to Thursday, the Singaporean medical students and doctors focused their efforts on conducting health check-ups for the children and staff at Peduli Anak. The check-ups included measurements of body temperature, blood pressure, and height, along with eye examinations, doctor consultations, physical evaluations, and blood sugar tests.

The children showed a mix of emotions during the check-ups. While some were brave and confident, others were initially hesitant, fearing they might need an injection. Despite these worries, the children eventually felt at ease thanks to the doctors’ reassuring presence.

Following the examinations, a few children were identified as needing further testing for their eyesight, while others required additional treatment for skin and hair conditions. Thankfully, most of the children were found to be in good health, with only minor cases of the flu caused by seasonal weather changes.

Dr. Matthew, one of the doctors, shared his thoughts on the activity: “This experience has been incredibly rewarding. It’s a privilege to contribute to the health and well-being of these children and to witness their bright spirits despite their initial fears.”

Promoting Health Education

Beyond the check-ups, the medical students conducted engaging health education sessions in the Peduli Anak Hall. Grouped into smaller circles, the children learned about maintaining a healthy body, the dangers of smoking, the importance of self-hygiene, and how to adopt a balanced diet. Despite language barriers, the children showed great interest and appreciated the efforts of the medical students, who tried their best to communicate in a mix of Indonesian and Malay.

Grateful Hearts and a Brighter Future

The presence of these Singaporean medical students and doctors was a tremendous help to Peduli Anak. Their visit allowed us to address the children’s health needs more efficiently and provided them with valuable knowledge about healthy living.

The week ended with smiles, gratitude, and a renewed sense of hope. We are deeply thankful for the kindness and dedication of the medical team, whose visit brought not only better health but also warmth and compassion to our children. Moments like these remind us of the power of collaboration and the difference it can make in the lives of those we care for.
