Not all children live in privilege. Some of them still have to work hard to make a living even though they are still young. Let alone going to school, it’s hard even to eat every day.
Living a hard life doesn’t mean they don’t deserve a decent life. These children are the future of the nation, who also deserve access to education and a safe home.
This is the case with Hasan (10). He is one of the scavenger children who live at Peduli Anak Foundation. Previously, he worked on the streets, scavenging garbage and living in a relative’s house.
He lives with his two younger siblings and his father who works as a plastic scavenger. They live in a small hut rented by Hasan’s aunt. Sometimes, Hasan had to sleep on storefronts because the hut is full.
“Crying for my fate, the bad fate of a homeless person. My life is walking down the street, the leftovers of the people I eat.” Hasan sang softly.
Every morning, Hasan borrowed a cart to look for used plastic. He also used to scavenge for leftovers on the street when he had no money to buy food.
Hasan is just one of the foster children of the Peduli Anak Foundation who previously lived on the streets. There are 200 other children who share his fate. Now, they live and go to school at Yayasan Peduli Anak. Even so, there are still many orphans and abandoned children needing help out there.
