Access to healthcare is a basic right for every individual. However, not all families in Indonesia have access to it. Especially those who do not have BPJS Kesehatan (Health Insurance). Therefore, Peduli Anak Foundation has taken the initiative to provide a free clinic for families who struggle to access healthcare services due to not having BPJS.
There are various factors why some less fortunate families do not have BPJS Kesehatan or cannot use it. Among them are difficulties in paying premiums, lack of complete identity documents for children, and illnesses whose treatments are not covered by the insurance.
Like Dende (3), whose body once turned pale and weak due to a lack of oxygen supply from a congenital heart defect. She could lose consciousness up to four times a day. The high cost of surgery, which could not be performed in Lombok, made it difficult for her family to cure her. The family's difficult economic situation worsened the situation.
Ahmad (4) is also battling a congenital heart disease. Abandoned by his mother, an Indonesian migrant worker in Malaysia, Ahmad was treated in a hospital but his treatment was halted due to his illegal status and he was deported to Indonesia. Without family, he was referred to Peduli Anak Foundation in a dire condition, with his illness worsening and urgently needing surgery.
Upon witnessing situations like Dende and Ahmad’s, Peduli Anak Foundation was moved to open a free clinic for those in need. The clinic’s objectives include:
- Improving Healthcare Access: Providing free healthcare services to families without BPJS Kesehatan.
- Disease Prevention: Conducting regular health check-ups to prevent chronic diseases.
- Health Education: Educating about the importance of maintaining health and how to register for BPJS Kesehatan.
Services Provided:
- General Health Check-ups: Blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, and general physical examinations.
- Doctor Consultations: Consultations with general practitioners and specialists as needed.
- Free Medications: Basic medicines and vitamins provided for free.
- Vaccinations: Vaccinations for children and adults according to government programs.
How to Access Services:
- Registration: Those in need of medical attention can come directly to the Yayasan Peduli Anak clinic.
- Verification: Staff will verify data to ensure the family does not have BPJS Kesehatan.
- Service: After verification, families can receive the necessary healthcare services immediately.
A free clinic for families without BPJS Kesehatan is a tangible step towards achieving equal healthcare access for all. With this clinic, it is hoped that no family will struggle to get healthcare services just because they do not have BPJS Kesehatan.
