Muhammad Arkan Firdaus, known as Arkan, is his mother’s only child. They live in a relative’s house, and his mother earns a living as a scavenger. Unfortunately, Arkan’s situation worsened as his mother’s health deteriorated, which also triggered mental health issues. As a result, Arkan could no longer attend school. Realizing the gravity of the situation, social workers referred Arkan to Peduli Anak, where he could receive proper care and continue his education in a supportive environment.
Heartbreaking stories like these are what motivate Chaim Fetter, a Dutch convert, to continue helping children like Arkan. In 2005, Chaim founded Yayasan Peduli Anak with the goal of providing a decent life and education for neglected children in West Nusa Tenggara. Since then, hundreds of children have been rescued and given the opportunity to achieve a better future.
At Peduli Anak, neglected children like Arkan are no longer alone. They live with a loving foster mother who cares for them with kindness. These children can attend school, enjoy nutritious meals that support their growth, and receive adequate healthcare. Here, they finally find a safe place and a new family that cares about their future.
However, as time goes on, more and more neglected children are being found and still need help. They need safe shelter, quality education, and regular healthcare so they can grow up healthy and happy like other children. Chaim cannot do it alone.
